sounds of the sea

ever notice that there is more to having an enjoyable summer at the sea than the view, the smells and the beeze? the sounds of the sea can be more soothing than any one other part. today i was able to enjoy the sounds of the sea in a different way than i have ever before experienced them. the day at cresent beach began with sketchy footsteps along rocky garden paths; the soft rustling of blue heron across the wide, low landscape; the whispering air with a bluish chill. when i arrived at the seminar hall - with the large angled windows and echoey staircase constructed of dark brick - outside, there were women with dogs and old men with umbrellas tucked under their arms as they casually conversed. as the day began to break through and the sun emerged so did the groups of busses filled with school children! such cute little creatures! and the air began to fill with rays of bright sunlight. and the misty tickling from the sea was amplified with a crescendo of seagulls swarming overhead. it wasn't until our "recess" break that we all went on the deck to fully experience the sea sights & sounds. comments were thrown around about the end of the school year and field trips and how glad we all were to no longer be sited in elemenatry schools - for a time. nonetheless we all smiled genuinely. observing. squinting, like crows from a lamp post. gawking and chatting and wondering what the texture of the cool sand must feel like against our hot, silent feet on this, the first day of summer.
